Strode Theatre
Strode Theatre celebrated it’s 60th anniversary in October 2023 having been built in 1963. Our beloved venue is equipped as both theatre and cinema, incorporating two venues. The main Theatre has 343 seats and a proscenium arch stage. The Studio which opened in the Autumn of 2015 has 64 seats in a retractable unit.
Our Theatre and Studio spaces are used for both live theatre and cinema and we are proud to offer mixed programme of live professional and amateur events on stage (‘Live on Stage’), mainstream and arthouse films (‘Film’) as well as live and recorded transmissions of opera, ballet and theatre (‘Live on Screen’). Our foyer is home to changing exhibitions of work by local and regional artists.
Part of the community
Strode Theatre has been an essential part of the community for more than six decades. We are pleased to offer a warm and welcoming environment for all our visitors, performers and artists. At the heart of the community, we provide spaces for meeting, rehearsing, performing and exhibiting.
Box Office
Our Box Office is open 10am-1pm Mon, Wed and Fri. We are also open an hour before performances.
Our fully licensed bar is open an hour before performances and/or films serving a variety of refreshments and snacks, locally sourced where possible. Drinks are admitted to the main auditorium in biodegradable ‘plastic’ glasses, and interval drinks can be ordered at the bar before the beginning of the show. Our bar gives a friendly place to meet beforehand and a relaxed atmosphere to chat afterwards.
