Unofficially based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, this classic German expressionist ‘fantasy horror’ silent movie, is one of the most important genre-defining films, influencing countless filmmakers ever-since, including Hitchcock. Stoker’s estate successfully sued the film-makers for copyright infringement and the court ordered all copies to be destroyed -fortunately, some survived! Estate agent Thomas Hutter (Wangenheim) is sent to the mysterious Count Orlok’s (Schreck) remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains to sell him a house in his hometown. After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle. Meanwhile Orlok’s servant, Knock (Granach), prepares for his master to arrive at his new home…
