Britain is an island shaped by memory, migration, and the persistence of the past in the present.
Over the course of a year, filmmaker Boris Thompson-Roylance filmed pre-Christian ceremonies and seasonal traditions across the country, pagan practices aligned with the Wheel of the Year, structured around solstices, equinoxes, and moments of transition.
Set against these rituals of return and renewal, the film asks how myth and landscape define the idea of Britain, and how land, migration, and belonging continue to shape national identity today.
Originally from Glastonbury, Boris returns to Strode Cinema following the sold-out screening of his feature film Swede Caroline. Featuring scenes filmed across Somerset -including the standing stones of Stanton Drew, the Rural Life Museum Wassail, Glastonbury Tor and Festival, and the murmuration skies above Shapwick Heath – The Land Remains reflects on the relationship between place, ritual, and belonging through a distinctly local lens.
Join us for a special event screening of The Land Remains, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Boris Thompson-Roylance. A very special performance by Kate Fleur Young who will be performing a sound bath before the screening.
