The play ‘Flooded Mind’ is written and directed by the young writer and actor, Braydon Smyth (Strode College), which is the debut play of his new theatre company BYM Theatre Company (Brilliant Young Minds). In the leading role, playing the character Toby is Woody Collins (Blue School/WCS). Toby is troubled man who is navigating the world coming to terms with schizophrenia. There are other talented cast members in minor roles that are from all parts of Somerset.
‘Flooded Mind’ is a deeply psychological play that mirrors marginalized individuals that suffer from mental health issues such as anxiety and schizophrenia. Braydon was inspired to write this play as he felt that schizophrenia, in particular, is difficult to comprehend from an outside perspective. Braydon wanted to breakdown the unjust stereotypes that people with this mental illness are violent and unpredictable. Braydon has worked directly with individuals with schizophrenia to gain insight and understanding into this condition.
