Loosely inspired by the biography of British KGB agent Melita Norwood, this historical thriller starts in London in 2000, where retired scientist Joan Stanley (Judi Dench) is arrested for crimes committed many years ago. Back in 1938 Joan is a young Cambridge student, drawn into a circle of politicised youths supporting the Republicans in Spain and the Soviet dream of a classless society. But when the war begins, she is recruited onto a secret intelligence project, which attracts intense interest from one of her fellow students.

“A good old-fashioned British spy thriller in the scientific mold of Enigma...” The Hollywood Reporter
