Our evening begins in Italy with the magnificent Roman Carnival Overture. Off to Scotland next with the archetypal Scottish overture The Land of the Mountain and the Flood and then over the North Sea to Finland for the ever popular tone poem Finlandia. Next we travel down to Spain for the music of Donna Diana from the comic opera of the same name which is based on a Spanish comedy “l desdén con el desdé”, then back up to France for The Corsair, which was originally named “La tour de Nice”. Across to Spain again for the delights of the El Cid Ballet Music, which depicts dances from different regions of the country. Next we travel back up to colder areas, where Tchaikovsky referred to his tone poem March Slave, as the "Serbo-Russian March". Finally, we return to England for audience participation in a rousing rendition of Jerusalem.
