The Friends of Strode Theatre is a separate charity (registered number 1112942) set up in 2006 to support the theatre, to improve the building and its facilities, and to enable innovation. Since the Somerset local authority funding cuts of 2011, the Friends’ support has become more and more important and is now absolutely vital in keeping the arts alive and flourishing in mid Somerset.
There are currently over 800 Friends and they have raised over £200,000 since 2006. Contributions have included annual donations, the ‘Adopt-A-Seat’ scheme, fund-raising events like quiz nights and shows, Gift Aid, and donations from other charities.
Friends funds have so far paid for a whole range of improvements and developments: new sound systems for live shows and film; energy efficient LED light fittings throughout the building; digital projection; satellite installation for opera, ballet and plays on the cinema screen; new carpets and flooring; repairs to bar and foyer furniture; online booking and the box office system.
During 2015 the Friends will contribute approx £50,000 towards the costs of developing a new Studio on the first floor of the building, for small scale performances and film screenings.
Friends’ membership will make you eligible for priority booking one week before each new season, and you will receive regular information on additional screenings and any further developments, either by email or post.
To join us we ask for a donation of at least £20 for one person, or £30 for two people at the same address, per year. Alternatively, you can opt to pay monthly by standing order – a minimum of £2 per month (for one Friend) or £3 per month (for two Friends at the same address). Please note that Friends memberships are no longer sold through the website – we keep the Friends charitable funds separate to ensure that every penny goes to the Friends’ priorities. However, you are still able to make informal donations online when you book your tickets.
